The same things that make Tai Chi a deadly self- defense system also makes it appealing to today's health and fitness conscious person.
Tai Chi trains students in what is known as a yielding or soft style of martial arts. The internal art of Pa Kua Chang teaches one to evade attacks through a fluid, circling pattern of movements, including steps designed to throw an opponent simply by coiling and uncoiling the body. At a higher level, the entire art of Hsing Ie Chuan (Fist of Will) teaches the student to explode internal power into every strike.
Meditation exercises help students control their breathing, develop a greater awareness of their body and cultivate a calm and controlled mental attitude. Like the famous yin/yang symbol, the balance of these two unique systems, Shaolin Kung Fu & Tai Chi, creates a powerful force and well-rounded martial artist.

Class begins with a formal bow-in. As a group, students are led through exercises of stance, posture, movement and breathing drills. The instructor then teaches or reviews forms that represent the material for the belt rank. These are either empty hand or weapons forms. Most classes end with push hand exercises.
Push hands is a partner exercise that improves one's balance and sensitivity. It uses the concept yielding and pushing to teach the student to react to forces with fluidity. Advanced push hands students are able to transfer their skills to real time fighting.
